Top Vancouver March Activities
Here are some of the best things to do in the month of March:
- Celebrate the spring weather by going for a walk or jog around the seawall at Stanley Park or anywhere around False Creek.
- Dust off the golf clubs or tennis rackets any day it’s not raining (or just do anything outside if it’s nice out and you get the chance).
- Paint your face, drink green beverages and enjoy St. Patrick’s Day at one of Vancouver’s Best Places to Eat and Drink (although maybe leave the face paint and green beer at home if you head out to one of the city’s finer establishments). Also, be sure to check out all of Vancouver’s great St. Patrick’s Activities at various locations around town.
- Check out Vancouver’s Top Free Things to do at Spring Break for a list of the best things to do with children for free during the school holidays.
- Enjoy the cherry blossoms around town. The Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival doesn’t officially start until April most years, but there will likely be blossoms all over the region well before that.
- Look out for migrating birds returning to the area after their winter holidays down south. Good places to find them include the Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Delta and Boundary Bay Regional Park near Tsawwassen.
- Enjoy some spring skiing up at the local ski hills, weather and snow conditions permitting.
Typical March Weather
The days are beginning to get longer and warmer, and it’s starting to rain a little less by the time March rolls around. Average high temperatures this month are up to 12 degrees C or so (or 54 F), and the lows in the range of 2 to 5 C (or 36 to 41 F).
March usually expects to get about 110 mm of rain (or 4.4 inches), so you can expect to need your umbrella a little less than in the winter months.
In general, March is starting to get close to a nice time of year for Vancouver, although the trees are still only just beginning to get their leaves again.
Recommended March Activities
Most years March can be a fantastic month for spring skiing, including night skiing now that the sun is setting increasingly later in the day. The snow is starting to get wetter than normal, but the extra sun and warm temperatures at Cypress Mountain, Mt. Seymour and Grouse Mountain can make the spring skiing exceptional, and Whistler with its higher elevations.
If the weather is good, instead of skiing, the best things to do include checking out all of Vancouver’s Best Places in Parks and Nature, including the Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Delta where they can sometimes expect gazillions of snow geese. (Click Thousands of Snow Geese in Richmond for a video of the birds in February 2015, all of which are expected at the Reifel Sanctuary in March and April each year).
On March 17 and the weekend before and/or after, bars are good places to find crowds of happy people with green faces drinking green beer celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.
